Mother of the Revolution is a new folk musical celebration of the life of a forgotten Yorkshire legend – industrialist Betty Beecroft; unearthing her untold story and those of the working communities that came after her.
We tell the story of Betty’s life to the present day. Interweaving 275 years of history that celebrates the incredible impact Betty and the generations of workers at Kirkstall Forge made to their local community. Using folk, the music of working people; we explore the themes of community, heritage and industry through an ambitious, new promenade production. Both original script and score are made in co-creation with, and in response to, engagement within local communities.
In celebration of Betty Beecroft's 275th birthday, and the communities of Leeds who have contributed to Kirkstall Forge over the years, we're producing a limited vinyl run of the score to Mother of the Revolution.
