Pure Colors (Joey) is finally back with his 2nd album.
"DI4D" was groundbreaking for the now Chicago-based artist and it took around 2 years to complete.
Hard to put into words, this body of work is a journey into the 4th dimension - Time. You'll hear tracks that push and pull. It's another LP that takes up the entire 12" record.
For the first time, nearly all drums on this album are recorded from the artist's home studio, rather than drum samples. It's very organic, laced with meticulous percussion and nostalgic, funky synthesizers derived from the classic Juno 106 and others.
There was a lot of original instrumentation on "DI4D", but some of the samples woven throughout are deep digs from other parts of the world. Aside from some classic tracks that were recolored.
This work was made possible due to the wonderful collaboration from fellow artists and friends, "Vanilla", "Soul Food Horns", and "Warren Lawson" (bass guitar, "Ascensión").
His first album "Chromafunk" came out nearly 3 years ago. There were 2 crowd-funding runs of the album on Qrates, selling more than 250 copies worldwide.
Always groovy, this is a glimpse into a deeper and more sophisticated sound from Joey.
You'll find essences of Jazz-Fusion, Worldly Funk, Brazilian Funk, Hip-Hop, Electronic, and Soul.
12" VINYL (LIMITED EDITION). All vinyls are hand-numbered 1-200. Full print of painting included with purchase.
The talented artist responsible for this painting is Jesus Altamirano. The painting was gifted to me when I began writing this album and it truly inspired the sound, message, and feeling of the rest of the record.
