Hooray For Earth's self-titled debut has been long lost/found in various states of archive. It lives now as a curious document of the first studio experiences of a band formed around a solo project. Hooray For Earth was invented as a place for myself (Noel Heroux) to do, like, whatever, free of worry for what anything is expected in music. This initial intention was upheld briefly before the "Hooray For Earth" ID and songs were lifted (with hesitation from it's creator) to drive a different band (I was also in) who'd grown restless with their direction at that time. That unresolved hesitance is largely why this "debut" has been buried/exhumed/buried/exhumed. The original versions of this music sounded of glorious trash, which is how I felt they worked. I had trouble dealing with it repurposed and recorded very well with a very competent band, as I did not enjoy hearing my insecurities in high definition. Voice clear and decipherable. Ack. Many violent jiggles to the ego. HOWEVER! Along with that draggingass cliche-rich baggage it was also undeniably very exciting to transform the glorious trash into something shiny, heavy, panoramic. It was disorientingly loud and neon, I fall hard for this. A confusing time!
Whatever the tired psychology of it I know I did this all on purpose and I'm pleased. It led me deep into the hi-def weeds, somewhere I needed to go.
