Puffy Coat Records presents the first in it's bootleg series: Live in Adelaide '19 from King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard are the kings (no pun intended) of recording music and live shows over the last decade.

When we first saw the King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard bootleg series, we thought two things:
(1) How can we help local music during these tough times?
(2) We want the look of anything we do to harken back to the bootlegs of old.

Check out the first in a series of bootlegs rom Puffy Coat Records. Though the music is new, the record looks like it was created in times of old when bootlegs vinyl was common. I know there will be many versions from the official bootleggers series over the next few weeks and months--I hope you consider supporting this project and live music!

This project will also help out independent music venues. A portion of proceeds will be donated directly National Independent Venue Association. The rest of the proceeds will be used to buy back vinyl to send to the band or to send local record stores that helped us in our journey.

Thanks to Jordon Grobe for his help on the visuals and feedback throughout this process!

How do you select the design?
The design is an attempt to reflect the look of 60s and 70s bootleg vinyl when sleeves were simple. Think back to the days of live bootlegs from Zepplin, Floyd and many others. I knew people would be able to find copies with the official artwork so I thought why not create something that looks looks like bootlegs from that time period. The vinyl splatter was designed to match the cover colors.

Why yellow and green?
I selected two colors from the original artwork put out by the band. I selected yellow so it would match the yellow from the official bootlegger logo. I thought the green and yellow together looked like a lizard.

Why is it called Puffy Coat Records?
The founder went to college in upstate New York where the weather is cold and there is a lot of snow. He was known for his big puffy green coat. His friends could identify him from a half mile away due to his puffy coat, thus the name Puffy Coat Records was born.

What's next in the puffy coat bootleg series?
We hope to do a release of each of the 2019 live shows that have been released. We plan a similar aesthetic but those will likely be a single LP. Next up is 45RPM single of the 29 minute Head On/Pill from this show that we were unable to fit on these 2 LPs.

We will work with QRATES to master these so they sound smooth and you feel like you are at the show!
