I didn't wake up this morning and think that I would be putting a King Gizzard album on the Too Many Records label, but here we are.
King Gizzard continues to be one of the most innovative and interesting bands out there, pumping out quality release after quality release and ducking and weaving through different genres while doing so. They shook the whole game up a few years back when they released the excellent Polygondwanaland and told everyone that it was a FREE album that they could go and make physical copies of however they wanted. It was... revolutionary, to say the least. There have to be over 100 versions of Polygondawanaland that exist, now.
Well, today, they announced they're continuing this trend and put up a handful of records (an early LP, some live shows, and two demo tapes) and said that people could go buck wild again, so long as they send the band a few copies for them to sell in their webstore.
A few months ago they relesaed DEMOS VOL. 1. MUSIC TO KILL BAD PEOPLE TO and DEMOS VOL. 2. MUSIC TO EAT BANANAS TO -- and they happened to be part of the bootlegger batch today.
I've listened to those demos. There's some REAL gold in there, but some that are just middling. I have sliced together an A side and B side of my personally curated pics, also sequenced by yours truly, to form together a cohesive sonic journey of an album that spans garage rock, jazz, and psych rock in a true Gizzard worthy fashion. I managed to take the scattered demos and actually build a pretty dang cool album out of it. Plus, you get the benefit of only having a single disk of all killer and you don't need to flip over 4 sides that have some filler. Mastered for vinyl, this will sound excellent.
For my two-color splatter signature move I decided to do green and red to represent the lizard and it's tongue, and then gold for the "King" aspect. I think it looks psychedelic and rad.
The art is going to be COMPLETELY ORIGINAL for this release done by the incomparable Oliver Jaime (who did the trippy art for TMR-3, A Cosmic Gift - Field Notes)
Anyway, I'm sure there will be a ton of versions of all of these records over the next few weeks, but I hope you'll consider supporting mine. This is now officially TMR-9, and TMR-10 will be coming in the new year in all its glory, I just thought it would be fun to squeeze this guy in. This is not really a money making endeavor, this would just be an awesome way to get some more Giz on vinyl and say that I have one of my top bands on my label... technically :P
Let's make another record!
PS: Everyone who pledges for a copy is automatically entered to win a test pressing. If you buy multiple, you get multiple chances. Huzzah!
