Bashi, meaning “peace” in Turkish, is NikNak's debut album; a collection of sounds recorded in Turkey, and then later manipulated live at Leeds International Festival in 2019. NikNak is a music creative based in Leeds and originally hails from London. A woman of many roles and talents, she has fully embraced the role of an artist with her debut album "Bashi" being released in November 2020.
"Bashi" is a sonic exploration and retelling of her time spent in Turkey in 2019. After recording the sounds, NikNak later reinterpreted them into a live performance at Leeds International Festival the same year. Her work as a Turntablist and sound artist has led to her working with artists such as Shiva Feshareki and Anna Meredith, creating soundscape-based performances for Light Night in Leeds, Tor Fest, and the HCMF Festival.
As a DJ, NikNak has performed at festivals such as We Out Here, Bradford Literature Festival, Wilderness, Leeds Digital Festival, and has supported notable artists like Children Of Zeus, Yves Tumour, Princess Nokia, Moses Boyd, SEED Ensemble, Akala, Madlib and Grandmaster Flash.
