Toya Delazy - Afrorave Vol.1

Toya Delazy

This is Afrorave

"Toya Delazy has been lighting up the underground electronic music movement in recent years with a barrage of genre-defying releases that shapeshift between club- centric beats and hypnotic Zulu lyricism bringing the flavour and organised chaos of freeform African genres into a rough and ready bass vibe with anarchic effects that are lighting up the dancefloors and melting the minds of even the most creative listeners"

Like everyone else we are struggling quite a lot now, financially and mentally.
As an independent, I have been self financing all the music released since 2016, and with several gigs scheduled for the next few weeks/months cancelled and a major brand contract lost due to the lockdown, I am now in a super precarious position.
I have, proudly, since 2016 released all my music myself and always made it available for free, and I’ve been blown away at where I’ve come in just over 3 years of independence. I’ve succeeded in taking the Zulu language thousands of miles from KZN. For this I thank EVERY ONE of you kings and queens.
In light of the last few days, I have set up a small vinyl crowdfund campaign to hopefully allow me to clear the losses and to live and keep going until this passes.
The support from friends, family and fans would be hugely helpful, with this I will be able to continue to release music that makes you feel good, and to exist.
Much love, always.

Toya Delazy is a bold and visionary artist, offering up a truly 21st-century sound that draws from her South African heritage, while remaining squarely rooted in the cultural and sonic identity of her adopted hometown, ‘London Town.’
It was Delazy’s single of the same name that truly announced her arrival on the global music scene in 2017, riding atop the MusicWeek UK Urban Club chart for nine consecutive weeks and receiving airplay from Rinse, Reprezent and BBC Introducing. Described by Clash Magazine as “an inspiration”, the single was lifted from the artist’s third album, Un.Commodified, an independently-released record that prompted acclaim from GRM, i-D Magazine and Afropunk. The remarkable success of the release is another addition to an extensive list of accolades that includes recognition at the BET Awards, the Out Music Awards and South African Music Awards and a recent inclusion on SheSaidSo’s 2018 Alt-Music Power List.
Unconstrained by the limitations of genre, Toya operates in the space between rave, grime and hip-hop, synthesising her influences into a diverse aesthetic that transcends borders both artistic and geographical. Taking to the stage at Bestival, UK Black Pride, the Bristol O2 Academy, Africa Express and the Jazz Café, Delazy has developed a revelatory live performance that has to be seen to be believed.
Driven by a fearlessly independent spirit, an irrepressible passion for music, and an uncompromising commitment to being herself, Toya Delazy is an inspiration to those who seek to forge their own identity. This outspoken artist stands as an icon for the oppressed and repressed, sending out a clarion call to individualists across the world: stand tall and be proud of who you are.
