A Work in Progress

Phil Castillo

Third studio album by New Jersey rapper now on vinyl!

"My third rap album, “A Work In Progress” revolves around the never-ending cycle i face with severe depression. the album begins with “Get Bigger, Part I” with leads the album with tracks of aggravation and anger. the sound is very “in your face” because that’s how i wanted it to feel like. i wanted the words to hit you with impact to the point that i’m yelling them at you. to have you know that the feeling is here, and has been here for a long time. as soon as that cools down, it segue ways into the next act from “Inside Outside” which takes you deeper into the harder songs that i wanted to write, because it becomes more personal with talking about suicidal thoughts, self harming issues, and expressing a fake smile on the outside, while hiding what you really feel on the inside, which follows with “Hate” which is a letter directed to things i hate about myself, and the people i hate, and “When I See It” which is a record of being in doubt of everything. The next act which starts with “Star Interlude” marks a new beginning, finding hope in “Weakness & Strength” and then, in “Get Bigger, Part II” realizing your worth for happiness and love. but when it breaks down into a somber piano in the second half, leading to “Going No Place”, that’s when the “cycle” repeats itself, following the return with “Thinking About You” and “The Last”. To me, this album is very special to me because it’s different than anything than i’ve ever talked about in any of my previous albums, because truth be told, i believe that we all are “a work in progress”. we are all working to become something better than where we already are. sometimes we never do, but we also need to realize where we are is just as good to settle in as well, or these things can often take time, but we have to remember: progress is a process." - Phil Castillo, Healy Sounds
