Multi-instrumentalist and producer Jesse Fischer is back with Flipped II, the next installment of the series that began with Flipped (2010) and continued with Vein Melter (2015), his Herbie Hancock / Head Hunters tribute collaboration with Sly5thAve. Picking up where Vein Melter left off, Flipped II is a love letter to the hard bop, soul jazz, and jazz fusion of the late 60’s/early 70’s, as seen thru the lens of golden era hip-hop beats and future jazz sounds of today — including covers of Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane, Joe Henderson, Freddie Hubbard, Stevie Wonder, and Wayne Shorter compositions.
"For me, a ‘flip’ is a beautiful marriage between a remix and a cover,” Jesse explains. “I’m looking to re- create a favorite song from scratch, radically altering the musical elements... but I always seek to maintain the original intent and feeling of the song."
Flipped II features a host of amazing guest artists including vocalist Jaime Woods, saxophonist Sly5thAve, trumpeter Billy Buss, saxophonist Godwin Louis, and percussionists Mino Cinélu and Keita Ogawa. Jesse performs all the piano, keyboard, bass, guitar, and drum parts, along with producing, engineering, mixing, and mastering.
“Jesse Fischer is a multi-instrumentalist that combines jazz, hip-hop, and electronica into a hip exploration of arranging jazz standards and pushing them as creatively as possible to bring out new visceral capacities of the music.”
– Jeff Williams, Modern Jazz Today
“Fischer has an excellent ear. He can seamlessly take some of the most characteristic sounds of different genres/regions and make them flow together in ways unheard before... And he is never overwhelming in his playing. Everything is so precise and always in the right place... Easily one of the best albums of the year.”
—Daniel Palmer, Nextbop
“Pianist/composer/producer Jesse Fischer is undoubtedly a man of many talents, but what truly makes him a standout musician is his uncanny ability to reinterpret some of our favorite songs.”
