Sentinel is the conclusion of one of many long journeys.
This one picked up some new influences along the way, particularly Ariel Pink, whose Lo-Fi throwbacks to genres we all love and miss as a fuzzy memory breathed new life into the zxz project.
Other influences include getting older, no longer appreciating what was once cool on the merit of it being a novelty, and the acquisition of better points of reference that made the world make just one extra bit of more sense.
Of course, 80s and 70s Horror films and their soundtracks played a part, as did the entire concept behind Hypnagogic Pop music, and most certainly Madonna and Skinny Puppy.
With 23 tracks, and running at well over an hour long, this album features a variety of mostly-instrumental tracks founded on an industrial music blueprint. The sounds are not for all ears, as a background in Italo Disco and Depeche Mode will tune the listener into the vibe needed to absorb what this release has to offer.
Sentinel is an effort to deliver an atmosphere — the definition of which will be up to the listener.
Proudly released by RetroSynth Records (USA)
