Why “Inner City Sound Clash”?
I started making this album as my own project. The songs were my stories. Then I connected with all of these artists from all over the world, and we could relate. So my stories became our stories, and our stories became our songs. I never just "made a beat". There was always a story behind it. It was never supposed to be ‘about me’. Electronic music can be too egotistical nowadays; I think artists are not geniuses, they are vessels channeling emotions and energy.
So I was on a plane going somewhere this summer, reading an article about a booming underground music scene, and I thought: “How evocative these words are”; and they really made me think about all of the music I’ve been making for the past two and a half years. In different cities, with so many (contrasting) influences. I felt that in particular working with two artists: Reuben and Naiad. I consciously put them outside their comfort zone with the songs I had made for them. Reuben is a rock singer. I’d never imagined I could work with someone like him. But I thought the result was mind-blowing. Same with the Hip Hop duo Naiad. I met them in Paris and I played them this quirky, glitchy beat, definitely not what they were used to, but they took the challenge and delivered an absolute gem.
BIORHYTHM features:
Jaidene Veda, Stephane Lefrancois, Wendel Patrick, Olu, Reuben, Kostnic, Dezaray, Naïad, Rise Ashen, Andy Compton and Pete Morris.
I hope you enjoy listening to this record just as much as I've enjoyed making it.
