“Is this the best it’s ever going to get when there’s so much left to live for” is the first line No Lungs brainchild Austin Cooper delivers on “At Metro Square,” the opening track from the upcoming album, ‘What You Didn’t Want to Happen Is Happening Right Now.’ In the song, a character witnesses a suicide, and although the suicide was not real (at least not one Cooper witnessed,) the location that makes up the song title is—Metro Square is a shopping plaza in Phoenix, Arizona, a location Cooper chose to place as the background to show the shocking in the mundane.

After self-recording and releasing his third album, ‘See You There’, in 2019, opening for acts such as The Ataris and Bay Faction, and embarking on his first regional tour, Austin Cooper returned to his home studio to record what would become his fourth album under the No Lungs banner. ‘What You Didn’t Want to Happen Is Happening Right Now’ is not a concept record, but Cooper tends to touch on recurring themes such as staying stagnant in a city where you know you don’t belong, love, loss, heroes and villains and sometimes being unable to decipher which one you are.

What You Didn’t Want to Happen Is Happening Right Now is coming out on September 18, 2020.
