Yearning for a break from the increasingly blurred line between corporate and civilian interests, and the economic duty to monetize their hobbies, Midcentury Llama was conceived by childhood friends Sam Okrent, Eric Gantner, and Frank O’Meara. While the three had played and grown together as musicians during their youth, it wasn’t until the boys all found themselves in Chicago again that they began compiling original music, enjoying tall beverages, and playing open mic nights.
Now, emboldened by the sweet licks and smooth harmonies of Nick Witek and a greater indifference towards realistic expectations, Midcentury Llama has performed at house shows and sold out small venues in Chicago with plans for an album release this fall. Midcentury Llama’s self-titled LP draws influence from bands like Whitney, Traffic, and Pinegrove. It features strong, catchy hooks, honest lyricism, and an eclectic mix of grooves.
