Keep Kalmado

Kaiolyn is a chillwave project started in 2016 by multi-instrumentalist Kyle Tesalona; featuring influences from ODESZA, Jai Wolf, Giraffage, Flume, and Bonobo.

Kalmado means “calm” in Tagalog, the native language of the Philippines. Even though I wasn’t born there, my heritage belongs there.

I began to work on Kalmado, unknowingly as a means to keep up my production skills while I was on a trip around Spain. A van of me and my closest friends traveled around Spain though the different landscapes of large metropolitan cities to rural farmland. I kept myself to a challenge: to write a demo of an instrumental for each stop on the trip. Each trackfrom this EP started from these experiences and how I felt during that day. After the trip I added more ideas and I began thinking about which artists I believed would bring out the best “voice” to the track. I consider all of the artists on the EP to be some of my closest friends.

What came from these demos was a collection of chillwave sounds with future bass elements, with emphasis on downtempo pop.

Each track has a story and life; featuring the voices of Olivia Dawn, DANI, Thrills, and Stagger.

Keep Kalmado and happy listening
