Midnight Social Recordings' 50th Release

Midnight Social Recordings began with Al Bradley as the lead artist on MSR001 and when Al's own 3am Recordings hit release number 50, it was MSR main-man Carlo Gambino who was the artist of choice. So now as Midnight Social hits catalogue number MSR050 the favour is returned, with Al serving up four cuts for the Malandro EP.

Opening the A-side, the title track is a warm bassy affair with the percussive elements to the fore. Little vocal parts weave in and out of the groove, with a synth riff coming into play in the second half of the track.

Midnight Shakedown has a nod back to the early-90s when Al could be found lurking at Manchester's Hacienda, soaking up the warm-up vibes from early doors; this cut echoes the bass & chord feel from those tracks, instantly recognisable and reminiscent of the sounds from that time.

Flip over to the B-side and we get two variations on an acid theme; Smoked Ribs is a heads-down deep house roller, with the acid working its way in and out of the groove, the pad running alongside it, opening and closing as the track progresses. This cut was recorded as a live jam and after being played out throughout 2017, it felt right to leave it exactly as it is for the EP.

Taking in a more hypnotic and minimal feel, Cloudy With A Chance Of Acid is an earlier in the set / afterhours deep cut, using a more stripped back percussive approach, allowing the acid to flow throughout the track and be the main element here, the pad and the percussive side sitting more in the background.
